Valerie June Trio
Saturday, August 22 2009, 9:00pm - 12:00am

ImageSaturday Nights mean Music in the Folklore Store.

2009 has been a breakout year for neo-folkie Valerie June.  Audiences around the country now recognize her as a featured performer on acclaimed director Craig Brewer's $5 Cover series for MTV Television and MTV.com.  Since $5 Cover is a blend of fact and fiction revolving around the contemporary Memphis music scene, it's only fitting that Valerie would be part of it.   For years, she's been the darling of Memphis' small club and coffee house circuit.  Her soulful blend of folk, R&B and even ancient country elements makes her popular with critics and audiences alike.  With a wealth of diverse influences ranging from Tracy Chapman to Elizabeth Cotton to Gillian Welch and the Carter Family, Valerie has crafted her own sound which she calls "Original Organic Moonshine Folk Music."
