Saturday Nights mean Music in the Folklore Store.
2009 has been a breakout year for neo-folkie Valerie June.
Audiences around the country now recognize her as a featured performer
on acclaimed director Craig Brewer's $5 Cover series for MTV Television and MTV.com.
Since $5 Cover is a blend of fact and fiction revolving around the
contemporary Memphis music scene, it's only fitting that Valerie would
be part of it. For years, she's been the darling of Memphis' small
club and coffee house circuit. Her soulful blend of folk, R&B and
even ancient country elements makes her popular with critics and
audiences alike. With a wealth of diverse influences ranging from Tracy Chapman to Elizabeth Cotton to Gillian Welch and the Carter Family, Valerie has crafted her own sound which she calls "Original Organic Moonshine Folk Music." http://www.valeriejune.com Catch the unique rhythms of the South or be surprised and find a visitor stopping by to play a tune.
Beer and light food avaiable while you listen... Support the Center - and yourself - by getting a FolkPass.
FolkPasses include two $5 vouchers good for any CSF show, plus a whole
bunch of other perks. That means for $50 you get $10 back just as a
start - and benefits that will last all year long.
