The best free festival in Memphis returns Labor Day weekend
as the Memphis Music & Heritage Festival celebrates its 22nd
consecutive year of presenting the unique cultural treasures the
Memphis/Mid-South region has to offer. South Main Street will be
filled with the sounds of soul, blues, jazz, bluegrass, classic and alt-rock, klezmer, funk, country, folk, bluegrass and more
that made ‑ and continues to make ‑ Memphis the great melting pot of
American music. In addition, there will be special entertainment for children, cooking demonstrations, dancers, artists, craftspeople, heritage talkers and storytellers galore.
Sponsored
by the Center for Southern Folklore, the festival runs from 11 a.m. to
11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, September 5 and 6, on South Main Street
between Peabody Place and Gayoso. This year the Center is proud to
honor three prominent Memphis saxophone players and dear friends - Fred Ford, Evelyn Young and Sonny Williams -
with a special commemorative poster and t-shirt. And, as always,
admission to the Memphis Music & Heritage Festival is FREE!
Support the Center - and yourself - by getting a FolkPass.
FolkPasses include two $5 vouchers good for any CSF show, plus a whole
bunch of other perks - especially during the Festival! That means for $50 you get $10 back just as a
start - and benefits that will last all year long.
