Brown Bag Lunch Concert: Melinda Milligan
Thursday, July 29 2010, 12:00pm - 1:00pm

MUSIC FOR LUNCH!

The music is free and you can bring your own lunch or buy ours - every Thursday & Friday 12-1 !

07/29 Thursday:  Melinda Milligan
Singer-songwriter

ImageMemphis based singer-songwriter, Melinda Milligan, has a voice that's been compared to Mary-Chapin Carpenter.  Her music bridges Americana, folk and pop. She skillfully taps into raw emotions and shapes them into song. Her song My Apology was a winner in the Memphis Songwriters' Association (MSA) songwriting contest and appears on the Best of MSA, Vol. 1 CD.  Melinda is currently in pre-production for her first album to be called Dress which is also the name of one of her songs.  Her co-producer on this project is Jim Lattimore who's one of the people behind the Memphis House Concerts series.

Melinda would rather perform her own material rather than covering other people's work, finding songwriting "therapeutic."  She has received a great deal of support from the Memphis Songwriters Association especially from the late Dennis Burrows who encouraged her to get on stage and perform.  Most of her musical influences are women including Memphis performers Nancy Apple, Barbara Blue, Susan Marshall, Amy LaVere and Ophelia Amore of Giant Bear.

"Her songs are reminiscent of Patty Griffin's if sung by Melissa Etheridge."
  --Jim Lattimore, Memphis House Concerts

What's for lunch?  Local and Touring Single/Duo/Group Acts will Perform Blues, Soul, Rockabilly, Bluegrass, Jazz, and Folk - just come by and find out who's playing.

"Brown Bag" your own lunch or try one of the Center's authentic Southern dishes - meat or meatless chili, vegetarian greens, hot water cornbread and peach cobbler.  Either way, the free Brown Bag Concerts on Thursdays and Fridays are one of the best reasons to live/work in downtown Memphis.
