      TOURS AND CULTURAL EXCURSIONS

      Want a tour that incorporates the whole Southern Experience? 

      The Center for Southern Folklore offers a wide variety of events and programs that showcase the music, traditions, crafts and cultural history of the Memphis/Delta region. We suggest you take advantage of everything the Center has to offer including our true special southern style meals, catered events, or a la carte breakfasts or lunches. The Center is also handicapped accessible. Tours may be personalized for your group’s specific needs!

      Tour One: Introduction to Memphis, Its Music & Culture - $6.00 per student and senior/ $8.00 adult

      Center staff welcomes the group and gives a brief cultural history of Memphis with emphasis on music, cotton, and the river, followed by a film about Beale Street. (Narrated by B. B. King) Group can then browse through our photo and art exhibit. (Performance Length: 45 Minutes)  

      Tour Two: Sample of Memphis’ Musical Heritage

      Special musical performances by local musicians and/or bands (blues, rockabilly, rock, gospel, Jug Band, R&B, folk) (Performance Length: 1 hour) Includes overview by Center Staff.

      The Southern Experience: Our most requested program!

       A unique cultural excursion that gives the group the opportunity to enjoy performances by legendary local musicians and/or storytellers, see films and media programs, learn about regional folk art and artists and enjoy the true tastes of Memphis with down home southern meals.  Ms. Ella Kizzie, a wizard with southern delights, will cook up a breakfast, lunch, or dinner to match the musical and cultural experience provided. Trained Center staff will lecture to the group providing information about the region and the Center for Southern Folklore.  

      *Tour prices vary with size of group, musicians and menus chosen.
