Art Covington's native Tunica, Mississippi inspired his first artistic explorations at the age of four when he discovered a natural ability to draw. His father encouraged his sons' artistic inclination by leaving a nickel on each successful drawing. The family soon left Tunica for Memphis, where, in the early 70s, Art was inspired to paint under the instruction of renowned artist George Hunt, Arthur's skills were recently featured in The Memphis Flyer. He's displayed his art here at the Center for Southern Folklore for several years.
